Stories of Success

~ Ben’s Bike Victory ~

We have a lot of fun here at GoGet and we also have a lot to shout about. Day in, day out, no matter what, our fantastic clients do something incredible that inspires each and every member of the team. We're excited to share some of these special moments with you.

Well, I think we can all agree that these last twelve months have been pretty trying for everyone and that now, more than ever, we all need things to celebrate. Enter Ben. We have had the pleasure of getting to know Ben since February 2020 and have had some fantastic adventures including some superb bike rides. For months, Ben had been amazing us with his skills on the trike and the KMX bike. His balance and handling of uneasy terrain were something to be admired and his confidence was steadily growing. He would race around the tracks of Stamford Bridge and it wasn’t long before he mastered the paths of Dalby Forest!

Due to social distancing guidelines, we had a summer outdoors… thank goodness for all of that glorious weather we had! Although there were some obvious limitations on activities that were available to us, we, as always, want to be able to offer as much variety to our clients as possible. Not only this but we wanted to ensure that activities such as cycling remained a favoured activity amongst the guys we support. With this in mind, the GoGet team searched high and low, for routes suitable for an activity on three wheels. Finding cycle paths and bridleways in almost every corner of Yorkshire we discovered there are some absolute gems out there.

As Ben’s confidence grew, the speedier he got… At this point, I’d love to present you a picture but unfortunately the majority of them came out blurry. With smiles all around, it was obvious that Ben loved being on a bike and what he loved even more was the ability to go fast. Conquering route after route, it soon became clear that Ben was ready for an exciting, new challenge. A challenge that with success, would allow him to zoom around cycle circuits and paths even faster than before.

Two-wheeled cycle challenge accepted!

Late one Autumn afternoon, during one of Ben’s three-hour sessions, we journeyed to a quiet carpark in York to try Ben out on a two-wheeled bike. The intention being, to allow him to get a feel for the bike and maybe, if he was up to it, give it a quick try. Ben however seemingly went with one mission and that was to master the art of cycling there and then. Helmeted up and a few wobbles later, Ben was soon steadily weaving in and around cones, all with a great big look of justifiable pride on his face. So that was now balancing, pedalling, right turns, left turns, all mastered. The next sessions’ goal was to learn the use of gears and maybe slightly more importantly… to master the brakes!

Summer had well and truly disappeared by now but here at GoGet, we don’t shy away from a bit of frost! We wrapped up warm and took to the cycle tracks of York Sports Village. After an understandable wobbly start and a quick reminder to pedal, Ben was back at it, leading the way around the circuit.  Loosing count of the number of laps done, it was time for a rest. I’d like to say that this was to give Ben the chance to practice using his brakes, but the reality was really just so that I could catch my breath!  We took this opportunity to go through the gears with Ben. Well, as you can understand, the information that going to a higher gear meant that you could go faster was absolutely something that Ben was ready to hear. We were off again and as his confidence grew rapidly, so did the number on the handlebars and the smile on his face.

The world has looked pretty different this last year, but it is always important to remember the positives. Many people across the globe took the opportunity to learn a new skill. Some learnt to bake bread, some learnt to knit, some learnt Yoga and some simply completed a 1000-piece jigsaw… Although I’m not quite sure you can call that a skill. Ben? Well, Ben learnt to ride a two wheeled bike.

Congratulations Ben and welcome to the wonderful world of two-wheeled independence. We’re looking forward to exploring more cycle routes with you!
